Keine Zeit zum Baden
Author: Hannah Eckstein, Holle Nann
Editor: DCV Books
Year: 2022
We are delighted to announce a new publication from DCV Books, celebrating the works for Jan Zöller.
The art of Jan Zöller is full of personal references and experiences, which he translates into his very own visual language. His paintings are stage-like arrangements from a diverse pool of motifs. Zöller’s first monograph, Keine Zeit zum Baden (No Time for Bathing), presents new space-related works such as a floating, blue-tiled installation from the exhibition of the same name at the Städtische Galerie Ostfildern, as well as videos and large-format paintings from the work group Badebrunnen (Bathing Fountains), created between 2019 and 2022. The depicted tubs refer to private moments of relaxation and the fountains to the “eternal cycle” of nature.
The title No Time for Bathing thus refers to the subjects of the works, but also to the dilemma of finding the right “work-life balance” between life, work and vocation.
Jan Zöller studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe with Marijke van Warmerdam and Leni Hoffmann from 2012 to 2017 and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris with Jean-Marc Bustamante in 2016. In 2018 he received the Federal Prize for Art Students from the Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn, and in 2021 the working scholarship of the Stiftung Kunstfonds.
